The inauguration ceremony of the international Quranic event will be held on Saturday, August 19.

The competition will run for a week, with the closing ceremony, in which winners will be announced and awarded, slated for August 26.

Like the previous edition, this year’s contest has two stages, with the preliminary stage having been held virtually back in June.

Malaysia’s international Quran competition, officially known as Malaysia International Al-Quran Recital and Memorization Assembly (MTHQA), is annually organized in the country’s capital of Kuala Lumpur.

This year, Ali Reza Bijani will compete for Iran in the 63rd edition of the contest.

He left Tehran for Kuala Lumpur early Wednesday.

Amin Pouya is accompanying Bijani in the trip as a guide. Pouya had won the second rank in the competition’s 53rd edition back in 2012.

Iran has the highest number of winners in the prestigious Quranic event.

Mohammat Taqi Morovat, Abbas Salimi, Ali and Masoud Sayyah Gorgi, Abbas Emamjome, Mansour Qasrizadeh, Ahmad Abolqassemi, Mohsen Hajihassani Kargar and Hamed Alizadeh are among Iranian Quran reciters who came first in different editions of the contest.
